HBO will air the series starting in October
Talk about being creative. Dave Grohl is taking album concepts to another level with the upcoming Sonic Highways project, because this is really creative and unheard of.
The Foo Fighters basically traveled the country and recorded their album in eight different studios, in cities like Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington D.C. and New York. They also interviewed people from those respective locations and came up with lyrics to those songs based on what those people said in the interview.
Not only that, but they took the footage and turned it into a documentary series that will be airing on HBO starting October 17, that will span across eight episode. One for each city they traveled to. This will lead into their album release on November 11.
“A love letter to the history of American music.” Each episode delves into the identity of each city — showing how each region shaped these musicians in their formative years and, in turn, how they impacted the cultural fabric of their hometowns. Every artist who appears in the show, regardless of genre or locale, started as an average kid with universal dreams of making music and making it big.”
We caught the trailer for this before last night’s episode of Boardwalk Empire and it intrigued us, but now that we actually know what the series is about, it’ll be interesting to hear the album and watch how it all came together.
The Foo Fighters interviewed everyone from Dolly Parton, to Willie Nelson, Macklemore, Pharrell, President Obama, LL Cool J, Slash, Mike D, Chuck D, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy and more.
