How Jamie Foxx Changed His Name From Eric Bishop

It helped him make it in comedy!

If you weren’t aware, Jamie Foxx‘s real name was Eric Bishop back in the day. So why did he change it? Apparently, as he tells David Letterman on Late Show, he did it to appease a comedy improv night in Santa Monica just because he noticed female comedians were always getting picked for a set. So he picked a unisex name and killed it on stage that night.

The “Foxx” in the name came from Redd Foxx, who he paid an ode to with it.
