The story of whaleship ESSEX
Director Ron Howard is back with film In The Heart Of The Sea, about the 1820 whaleship ESSEX, which was struck by a large bull sperm whale and left everyone on board shipwrecked. All the passengers were far from home and in the sea for 90 days, then their voyage took them to South America where they had to do what they could to make it through the storms, panic and starvation. Some even turned to cannibalism to survive, after being pushed to their limits.
The film, based on Nathaniel Philbrick’s best-selling book of the same name, opens in theaters March 13, 2015 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Cillian Murphy, and Tom Holland.
