Melissa Benoist Cast as Lead Role for CBS Series “Supergirl”

The iconic DC Comics character is finally resurrected!

Best known for her role as Marley Rose in the musical Glee and popular Indy film Whiplash over the years, actress Melissa Benoist has finally landed her first official lead-role. The 24-year-old rising star has been cast to star in the upcoming CBS drama, Supergirl. While filming or even a timed-release date hasn’t been set, the DC Comics series will see Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El finally showcases her previously hidden powers – embracing what her famous cousin has been known for. The show was first announced over the summer by Berlanti Productions (in association with Warner Bros. Television), but they’re surprisingly still looking for a lead to play Kryptonian.

Look for more details to emerge in the coming months regarding more of the cast, and stay tuned for an official premiere date in next fall’s new TV series.
