God Help The Girl
Themed from Stuart Murdoch’s 2009 musical project, God Help the Girl sees an official film adaption five years after his group’s self-titled EP became a hit among the international scene. Nearly a year later from its Sundance Film Festival premiere during the World Cinema Dramatic Competition and most recently at the Berlin International Film Festival, Belle and Sebastian’s musical drama film finally sees its stateside release. Starring Emily Browning, Olly Alexander, Hannah Murray and Pierre Boulanger among others; the new film centers on Eve (Browning), who escapes from a psychiatric hospital in hopes to become a musician.
With anorexia nervous treatment behind her as a afterthought, she’s soon on her way to Glasgow and encounters songwriter James (Alexander), and soon meets the rest of her bandmates. With Eve still battling drug addiction in private, the band finally gets their big break that lands them on the main stage of Glasgow to perform their final concert in London. After winning numerous awards since its premiere earlier in January, were recommending God Help the Girl as arguably our must see movie this weekend.
If you don’t happen to make it to theaters, the film will also be available for video-on-demand.
