If you’ve been watching late night or daytime television, McFarland, USA should ring a bell. The Walt Disney Pictures motion picture starring Kevin Costner focuses on a 1987 California-based Latino high-school cross country team’s coming of age. With the teen’s neighborhood issues and poverty stricken environments lingering when they’re away from the field, Coach Jim White (Costner) learns more about the athlete’s lives – which coincidentally helps him through his own issue in the uplifting affair. Surprisingly, Disney only spent $17 million on the project, which we’re expecting them to heavily recoup over the next 72 hours. This could be a dark horse to give Hot Tub Time Machine 2 some competition for the second highest box office grosser this weekend.
