The Humbling
Last summer at the Venice Film Festival, Al Pacino presented attendees with his erotic comedy film, The Humbling. While the project was also shown at the Toronto International Film Festival, it’s finally seeing its North American rollout this weekend. Pacino assumes the role of aged and addled actor, Simon Axler, who sees his life turned upside down after an affair with a lesbian. The Philip Roth novel also shows Axler’s attempted suicide and emotional breakdown, but a much younger woman intrigues him to live out one of his rare fantasies at the tail end of his life.
