Black or White
From the outside looking in, we would expect Black or White to be one of the better films released this weekend, but it’s sadly been receiving mediocre reviews. With a cast of familiar faces in the likes of Kevin Costner, Octavia Spencer, Gillian Jacobs, Jennifer Ehle, Anthony Mackie and Bill Burr – the former standout release at the Toronto International Film Festival last September is finally making a splash to theaters.
Elliot Anderson (Coster) plays the role of a widowed grandfather, whose wife dies a crash and his daughter also passes away giving birth to young Eloise. Unfortunately, her father becomes a struggling drug addict after the death of his significant others; but his mother Rowenda becomes engaged in a huge custody battle with Elliot to decide which upbringing is better of her. Whether or not the two sides can come to an mutual understanding remains to be seen; but the powerful message and plot alone will be enough for casual goers to give this one a second look.
