Movies To Watch This Weekend (January 9, 2015)

Inherent Vice

Last fall at the New York Film Festival, many viewers were treated to a 2-hour gem, courtesy of Paul Thomas Anderson (director, producer and screenplay). Inherent Vice is without a doubt the biggest release arriving to theaters this weekend and has a familiar cast of characters to complement its current promotional campaign.

Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Katherine Waterston, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio del Toro, Jena Malone, Maya Rudolph, and Martin Short – the newly released crime-drama and comedy film is at the top of priorities to see this weekend. Joaquin Phoenix assumes the role of a private detective, Larry ‘Doc’ Sportello, who now lives in California. His estranged and former lover Shasta randomly shows up to his door step for much-needed help. With Doc out of the game in a 1970s state of mind, the drug-fueled he’s investigating (and coincidentally living) comes to full circle quickly when Shasha disappears abruptly herself. Now with a cheating husband and mistress, Doc must solve a case and put his non 9-5 slacker lifestyle on hold to clear his conscious.
