Movies To Watch This Weekend (June 19, 2015)

Dope

One of the biggest films releasing this summer, is by far the Forest Whitaker-produced project, DOPE. Over the last month, we’ve seen a heavy promotional campaign for the Sundance Film Festival stand-out film last winter. With Pharrell Williams and Diddy helming executive producing duties, the new comedy-drama stars Shameik Moore, Tony Revolori, Kiersey Clemons, Blake Anderson, Zoë Kravitz, A$AP Rocky, Tyga, Keith Stanfield, Casey Veggies, Vince Staples, Chanel Iman, Quincy Brown and Rick Fox. So far, the film has been met with huge praise, with some even touting it as the 2010s version of The Wood. Coincidentally, the upcoming motion picture takes place in the same Los Angeles neighborhood, with a high school student named Malcolm looking to fit in the tough neighborhood of the Westside. With the message and the moral of the story to the youth being be themselves, DOPE can offer a few gems of laughs to get your early summer laughter in for the time being.
