One of the most anticipated films of 2016 has to be The Birth of a Nation, a movie that follows the life of Nat Turner and his journey as the leader of the slave rebellion in Virginia in 1831. Written, produced and directed by the film’s star, Nate Parker, The Birth of a Nation offers a look inside Turner’s life as he and his owner, Samuel Turner, played by Armie Hammer, use Nat’s preaching as a tool to conquer unruly slaves.
Looking to do something about all of the cruelty he witnessed, Nat takes things to a different level with high hopes of bringing freedom to his people as he leads an uprising.
The movie stars the likes of Armie Hammer, Gabrielle Union, Mark Boone Junior, Aja Naomi King, Jackie Earle Haley and Penelope Ann Miller
The Birth of a Nation releases in theaters October 7th.
