HBO, Showtime, Starz, Hulu & Amazon lose big!

Netflix has officially changed the game, with the announcement of a new exclusivity game with Walt Disney Pictures Inc. Beginning this September and the foreseeable future, Netflix becomes the exclusive US pay TV home for films released under Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar.

This means any film released after September like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Doctor Strange will not be coming to HBO, Showtime, Starz, Hulu and Amazon Prime.

This dates back to the original 2012 deal, where Netflix outbid premium networks for the exclusive Disney deal to set themselves up for the future. However, upcoming films will still arrive to Redbox, as well as pay-per-view and physical home video rental services. Right now, we’re just hoping Star Wars Rebels the rest of the Lucasfilm library hits the streaming service in the coming years.

Take a look at the announcement below.

The breakdown of Netflix’s deal with Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar.

From September onwards, Netflix will become the exclusive US pay TV home of the latest films from Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar. And we’re excited to be bringing you new and exclusive Netflix Original movies including Mascots from the master of low-key comedy Christopher Guest (Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind) and War Machine, from acclaimed Australian director David Michod and starring Brad Pitt, in the serio-comic tale of the U.S. military adventure in Afghanistan.
