Back in 2015, Nicki Minaj’s brother, Jelani Maraj, was arrested for predatory sexual assault on a 11-year-old girl. Mr. Maraj was the step-father of the minor, as he was dating her mom. Jelani claimed that the case was a scheme to extort Nicki for millions, as she was allegedly planning to take the stand back in 2017.
However, after being found guilty three years ago, those plans were stopped with Maraj awaiting his fate. To start 2020, Maraj was sentenced 25 years to life in prison on Monday in a Long Island courtroom.
In the verdict, Nassau County Supreme Court Judge Robert McDonald told Jelani, “You raped this child. You raped her over and over again.”
While still maintaining his innocence, Maraj said, “I’d like to apologize for the pain that I caused. I had an excessive drinking problem. I’m just asking for mercy from the court.”
Although an earlier attempt to overturn the case was thrown out, Maraj plans to appeal the ruling.
