Sometimes Hollywood just goes too far. We constantly see Hollywood studios and producers dip into the remake or reboot of a film or franchise, and sometimes it just doesn’t work. The latest attempt by Hollywood at the remake comes straight from the 1990’s classic film, Point Break. The Katherine Bigelow-directed film starred Keanu Reeves opposite of the late Patrick Swayze, and was centered around Reeves trying to capture surfing bank robbers in California. The film set the tone of the 90’s and is still looked at with incredible acclaim all of these years later.
Now back to 2014 and Alcon Entertainment, who is the studio behind the remake. It was just announced that they have cast the roles of Johnny Utah and Bodhi for the film. Gerard Butler has been placed as Utah and G.I.: Retaliation star Luke Bracey has been cast as Bodhi. No offense to either, but this remake appears to be off to a horrible start. Filming is set to begin this summer, but at this point we really hope someone stops the making of this film. If the younger generations want to get a taste of Point Break, then they should just watch the original.
Let us know your thoughts on the Point Break remake after the jump. Is it SMASH or TRASH status?
