Looks like the emergence of TIDAL has put Spotify in a slightly odd predicament. Although JAY Z’s streaming service is just a blip in the radar compared to the powerhouse they are, it seems like Spotify won’t let that be the reason they stand still and do nothing. Obviously, competition breeds change and now the streaming giant has embraced the new wave and vision of what they want to do moving forward in hopes to make a bigger impact in their own space.
Sort of similiar to what TIDAL is doing, Spotify has announced that it will bring video content to their platform, but not in the sense of exclusive music videos. They have actually partnered with the likes of VICE, ABC, ESPN, Adult Swim, BBC, Comedy Central, E!, MTV and more to bring you videos from those outlets so you can discover more than just music. Take it as a swipe at Snapchat‘s “Discover” section (does anyone really hit that section religiously?).
Not only that but they are adding podcast capabilities, adding new shows from some of your favorite artists and adding a feature for runners that’s similiar to Adidas Go, in the sense that it plays songs based on your speed.
Whether you want to believe it or not, Spotify claims this is “the most entertaining Spotify ever.” The jury is still out on that, but at the least, we’ll check it out and see what’s good.
