Stephen King‘s classic horror novella The Mist saw a film adaptation in 2007 by The Walking Dead developer and executive producer Frank Darabont. It is now being reported that Spike has ordered a production pilot for series based on the 1980 tale with Christian Torpe serving as the executive producer for the series. Torpe is responsible for Denmark’s successful series Rita, now finishing its fourth season.

The show will mark Spike’s third attempt at a scripted series since re-entering with their three-part miniseries Tut in 2015 and the since scrapped drama Harvest. The series will be developed through Dimension Television, who first announced that they would be bringing The Mist to television in September of last year. The company is coming off a pretty successful run with MTV after bringing the Scream franchise to their network and the show is now in production for its second season.

Spike has promised that Stephen King’s sci-fi thriller will be a series unlike anything else on TV.

As fans of the film, we can’t wait to check out the series when it finally airs.
