Taylor Swift Talks Kanye West, Success and Her Music in GQ (November 2015)

1989

Considering she’s the biggest pop star in the world, the success of 1989 has catapulted Taylor Swift to uncharted waters. GQ has deemed her November’s cover star where she takes them on a trip to her house and a lot transpires on the journey. She gets a call from Justin Timberlake, they’re followed by paparazzi for five miles, she talks about what she would have done if her family wouldn’t have moved to Nashville in the first place and she speaks on how her songs are interpreted in the public eye and how that differs from the actual meaning.

She also opened up about the Kanye West incident at the 2009 VMA’s and explains how that was a significant moment in her life and career:

“When the crowd started booing, I thought they were booing because they also believed I didn’t deserve the award. That’s where the hurt came from. I went backstage and cried, and then I had to stop crying and perform five minutes later. I just told myself I had to perform, and I tried to convince myself that maybe this wasn’t that big of a deal. But that was the most happenstance thing to ever happen in my career. And to now be in a place where Kanye and I respect each other—that’s one of my favorite things that has happened in my career.”

You can read the rest of her story over at GQ and peep her spread up top.
