True Detective “Seeing Things” Recap

Following the debut episode just a week ago, last night saw the second showing of HBO’s new crime thriller, True Detective. In present tense, the duo of Martin Hart (Harrelson) and Rust Cohle (McConaughey) continue their discussion towards the death of Dora Kelly Lange, which was one of their key investigations back in 1995. As seen in the previous airing, we also find out more about both characters from a personal point of view, which somewhat ties into the stress of what their job causes on a daily basis. Unlike the first episode, it seems Cohle isn’t the only one with questionable antics, as Hart unravels the story of what’s needed in his life.

OS REWIND: True Detective “The Long Bright Dark” Recap

The two manage to track down possible locations where Dora had visited, with Cohle’s sharp eye for weakness allowing him to kick the shit out of two men for lying, and essentially finding out the address of a ranch where the girl had previously been staying. The farm gives them the opportunity to speak to both the leaser and an apparent friend of Dora’s, who tells the officers that she had moved out and acquired a place of her own a little while ago, and mentions the fact her ex is in prison. Along with Hart noticing the young age of the friend and consequently giving her cash to change her way of living, the association with church is brought into light once more. The episode ends with the two investigators visiting an abandoned church in the middle of nowhere, and happen to find a strange image on a wall amongst wreckage.

Again, much of the story is about the lives of both Hart and Cohle. While opening up to Hart for the first time, Cohle goes on to briefly discuss the death of his daughter and the destruction of his marriage, which is to blame for his drunken behavior before sitting down for a meal in the previous episode. Cohle’s bizarre actions unsurprisingly continue, reassuring that he could tell the difference between his hallucinations and what was real, though learning that he spent time in a psychiatric ward at some point. Aside from that, Hart faces constant arguments with his wife after spending time at her parents’ house, after she questions his desire to be with her and the kids. Little does she know that he has a frequent booty call by the way of Lisa, leading to a tense scene between both officers after Cohle assumes of the situation that is occurring.

We did get a chance to see actor Alexandra Daddario completely naked, though.
