Uruguay Legalizes Marijuana Trade

uruguay

The subject of marijuana legalization has been through many debates throughout the past decade, with users of the drug protesting its safety, and even the treatment it can provide to many illnesses. It’s now officially been decided that cannabis will become legal within the borders of Uruguay, making it the first ever country to create a system protected by the law in terms of production, sales and distribution.

Uruguayan residents over the age of 18 will have the permission to purchase 40 grams each month, with the government keeping track of the sales in order to see how the decision effects the economy and lifestyle as a whole. With now just 120 days to regulate, people of the South-American country will be allowed to grow six marijuana plants in their homes each calendar year, with an option to form unities of 15 to 45 members that can grow no more than 99 plants.

The decision is certain to kickstart debates in other countries across the world.
