5G plans are arriving sooner than you think!
If you remember last year, Verizon introduced their XLTE speed, giving users an increased data experience beyond standard 4G. Well, now they’re planning to take things a step further in 2016 with the long-awaited testing 5G services. Verizon Inc. issued a press statement today, saying they finally plan to start the technology testing sometime next year, with a formal roll-out to U.S. after 2020.
However, that date could be moved up due to accelerated rate of wireless technology advances for the company, which we expect by 2018. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to any, as the conglomerate was also the first among all providers to offer LTE in the states, so the imminent jump to 50-times-the-speed of current data in the future shouldn’t a surprise. Take a look at Verizon’s plans pertaining to the drastic 5G jump you can expect in the coming years.
Verizon’s plan:
Verizon, Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Ericsson, Nokia, Qualcomm and Samsung kicked-off the inaugural Verizon 5G Technology Forum last month, and have established working teams to ensure an aggressive pace of innovation.
5G network environments, or “sandboxes,” are being created in Verizon’s Waltham, Mass., and San Francisco Innovation Centers. Just like in the early days of the development of 4G LTE technology, collaborating in a shared environment will foster compelling applications faster.
Verizon and its partners are committed to beginning technology field trials in 2016.
