more characters, less cgi, this time. . .

The Wachowskis siblings changed the entire landscape of the movie business, with their 1999 release of The Matrix. While Warner Bros. would see criticism for its back-to-back 2003 sequels (The Matrix Revolutions & Reloaded), it still generated over a billion in total box office revenue.

Now, the studio behind the sci-fi post-apocalyptic thriller is planning to officially reboot the series. While the original cast is unlikely to return, Michael B. Jordan is the likely lead to assume the new role of Neo the One. It’s unclear who will be helming the roles of Trinity and Morpheus; but Avengers co-writer Zak Penn is currently in talks to help curate a modern script.

Look for details to emerge later this year, including more cast mates and a target release date.
