We have to admit, until talking to a few of our friends over drinks this week, we had no idea Starz was releasing another series this fall. Following the success of summer hits Outlander and 50 Cent’s crime-drama Power, both shows were renewed immediately for second seasons. The popular network returns in time for the fall season to keep their momentum rolling and acquire new fans with their latest series, Survivor’s Remorse.
The show premiered last Saturday and was greeted with an unfortunate lukewarm response in ratings, but we’re assuming most didn’t know the series even existed. Exactly two years after ESPN Films premiered their critical-acclaimed 30 for 30 episode “Broke,” the biggest athlete in North American sports wanted to shed light and share a few experiences plus things he’s endured maturing in the crazy behind-the-scenes world of sports.
Alongside Mike O’Malley and Tom Werner, LeBron James takes on executive producing duties for his first premium TV series. From the streets of North Philadelphia, Survivor’s Remorse centers on basketball star Cam Calloway’s (Jessie T. Usher) rise to professional stardom and maintaining financial comfort, to avoid being another statistic of superstars going broke. When you’re in your early twenties with millions in a bank account, it’s hard to shy away from luxurious living in a different world – being in a new tax bracket.
Now that young Killa Cam has finally made it out the hood, he’s having a hard time of making an adjustment by not forgetting but progressing with his closest family, friends and associates he’s taking care of. Women, extortion and criminal acts are some the situations you’ll come across in the pilot above. Before episode two airs this Saturday at 9pm ET/PT on Starz, you can watch below after the pilot above.
