A Big Heart From A Big City… R.I.P. Big Proof

It’s been seven years to the day since Detroit hip-hop would change forever…

DeShaun “Big Proof” Holton was the upholstery of Detroit hip-hop. The glue that kept everything held together in the 313. That cement was seemingly broken one early morning on April 11, 2006. At the young age of 32, DeShaun Holton was taken from us all. The hip-hop community lost one of it’s biggest and strongest supporters, providers, and pioneers. Many years have passed and many records have dropped, but the feeling once there seems to be a bit different since that eerie night. Quite frankly, if you ask anybody from or around Detroit, April 11th always seems to be just as grey as it is today.

Some people will know Proof from the tabloids that circulated following his much too early passing. Many more will know Proof for who he was and what he meant to the city of Detroit. Regardless, Proof will always be known for the music he created for himself, for others, for the city of Detroit, and for hip-hop. From I Miss The Hip Hop Shop to Searching For Jerry Garcia, today we count down some of those records.

Rest In Paradise, Big Proof.
