We don’t need a reason to dedicate a post to Missy Elliott. She’s going on 10 years without an album (her last effort was The Cookbook in 2005) and it seems like the drought is about to be over soon. Don’t get it twisted, Missy hasn’t been completely off the map lately. She’s made appearances in tracks with Faith Evans, Fantasia and two years ago, she dropped that “Triple Threat” x “9th Inning” teaser.
Not too long ago, Timbaland told Rolling Stone that Missy has the first single on deck and it sounds like nothing you’ve ever heard her done before. It’s just a matter of when she wants to release it to the world.
As excited as we are about the news, we wouldn’t want her to rush. In the meantime, we’ll be cooling out listening to her old music and appreciating what she brought to the game while she was here. She’s got a bunch of gems that haven’t gotten old. That’s why we’re looking back at them now, because no matter how long it takes her to drop another album, a bulk of her catalog still exists and is easily accessable.
We have to admit, some of our favorite Missy tracks are when she gets on her R&B shit. The club bangers are good too, but there’s nothing like hearing her sing. We’ve been dying to hear a full-out R&B album and hope that one day it happens.
Either way, it’s never a bad time to play some Missy Elliott music.
