Apple Music and Genius Have Announced Partnership for Music Player & Lyrics

If you’ve been on the Genius app at all today, you may have noticed a little difference. The company has now partnered with Apple Music to become the official music player for them, as well as pairing the website’s lyrics with songs and adding their lyrics to Apple Music for “thousands of songs.”

This means that if you’re a subscriber, you will be able to play a song directly from the Genius song page if you’re logged in without having to play it elsewhere. This is available on both desktop and iOS devices for now.

“Being able to read lyrics and annotations on Genius while you listen along on Apple Music is a dream Genius experience. We’re proud to make Apple Music our official music player, and we’re doubly excited to bring Genius lyrics to their amazing platform.”

As far as the Apple Music experience, we’re not quite sure how it’ll affect the lyrics that were already there but we’re sure we’ll start seeing more branding as they update the app. As of now, lyrics were visible for some songs if you scrolled down while listening to the song under the player and chose to “Show” them.

Either way, it feels like the two entities will be more integrated with each other moving forward and there will be more cross-promotion between both.
