Chess moves being countered
Spotify has been making plenty of moves to continue its growth and chokehold on the streaming industry, but Apple is quietly trying to make moves of their own and ante up on their market share.
Word around the industry is that Apple is offering Drake $19 million to help boost iTunes Radio, enlisting him as a guest DJ for the platform. Other names being thrown in the mix as well are the likes of Pharrell and David Guetta, as they get ready to revamp the service. As many know, the company is also going to relaunch Beats Music later this year and try to chip away customers away from Spotify.
Apple is also pushing for a free music tier that will be a 3-month trial, which may cut into profits, but should satisfy listeners who refuse to sign up for TIDAL because of the price. Labels have not yet authorized the move, due to rights owners losing significant money with such a move. Tim Cook and company are also looking to rival YouTube, Pandora and Spotify by offering artist pages, lyrics and a video section of their own, once the platform is ready to launch.
But how many fans will flock over to iTunes and ditch Spotify?
