In part two of his ARTST TLK series with director Spike Lee, he talks about how he went from NYU Film School to now being the head of the department. He told the story about his first films and how he struggled to get funded, mailing letters and doing ground work —compared to now, where he does Kickstarter campaigns and raises millions of dollars to fund a movie.
He explains how he came up with certain characters from his older films, how Michael Jordan picked him to direct a commercial and his thoughts on Denzel Washington in Malcolm X.
