Chaka Khan Says She Was Insulted by Kanye West’s “Through the Wire” When It Came Out

We’re not sure why Chaka Khan is acting brand new in this Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen interview since she performed with Kanye West at the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards, but she is.

When asked what she thought of Yeezy’s “Through the Wire,” the legendary singer said she was pissed when the song came out and it was nothing like what he explained.

Apparently, he called her before the song came out and tugged on her heart strings by telling her that her original song “Through the Fire” got him through his injuries and helped him through the healing process. He explained how his mouth was wired shut and had to eat through a straw.

When it came to the sample, he said he changed a few words.

Turns out Chaka was not pleased with the final results because she used words like “insulting” and “stupid” in this interview to describe what she felt. To the point where she said, “If I’d known he was gonna do that, I would have said, ‘Hell no.'”

Ultimately, she made some money off the sample, but still gave him “crickets” after the fact.
