Somebody is seriously getting fired over this! – Beyonce
Yesterday, when the world of hip-hop as celebrating Kendrick Lamar’s GRAMMYs takeover, something rather unusual was missing from music’s biggest event all year. Drake’s critically-acclaimed single “Hotline Bling” was nowhere to be found on the event’s Record of the Year category. With a potential Adele Remix on the way, various remixes and its viral takeover over the few months, rumors began to spark why the 6-God’s international hit didn’t receive a nom.
According to Hits Daily Double, the single wasn’t submitted by his label Ca$h Money Records on time, due to a clerical error before a deadline. While he received nominations for Best Rap Performance of “Back to Back” and Best Rap Album for If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late among others, his biggest release of the entire year didn’t make its way to The Record Academy.
With rumors surfacing earlier this fall that OVO Sound had financial issues with Birdman, we’re curious how this botch will play out going forward. Neither Drake nor Ca$h Money have commented on the report, as we’ll have to wait and see what happens from both parties in the coming weeks – including if the Drizzy x Adele collaboration really becomes official.
