Mr. Ocean now joins Aubrey Graham as the next great to miss the Grammys
Over the summer, Frank Ocean released two albums in the form of Blonde and Endless, which were both met with critical-acclaim. However, it looks like he won’t receive recognition from the Grammys in a few weeks, when they unveil their upcoming 2017 nominations.
Earlier today, a Grammys rep confirmed that neither project was submitted to them by his labels or management before the September 30th deadline last month. This is kind of surprising, since both efforts were released well before the previously mentioned cutoff date, as his independently released Blonde project dethroned The Boy’s VIEWS LP in August for the no. 1 spot on album sales.
It’s unclear whether or not the album was intentionally not submitted in time or if there was a behind-the-scenes mishap – reminiscent of Drake’s “Hotline Bling” controversy last year.
Ocean’s representatives declined to comment on the story, as you can look for the nominations reveal on December 8th; then the award show to air February 12th on CBS.
