Kendrick Lamar Visits Mr. Mooney’s Class

Kendrick’s lyrics meets hip-hop high school literature

Only a few weeks removed from being named generation icon by the California State Senate, rapper Kendrick Lamar was New Joisey bound for a visit to High Tech High School in North Bergen. English teacher, Brian Mooney drew a similar parallel to the lyrics from Kendrick’s To Pimp A Butterfly, as similar literature to a blog he recently posted. The 29-year-old teacher soon put together a Hip Hop Lit class to shed light on struggles seen through hip-hop music. In the video above, the Los Angeles rapper surprises the classroom of 40 kids, who gives children interest in wanting to learn about current history from a person who reflects where they come from.

With a generational gap bridged thanks to help of K. Dot providing literature through his music, Mr. Mooney still manages to get his point across about history to the youth. Watch Kendrick’s visit to the school above and highlights from his music performance of Alright.”
