Kendrick Lamar Named Generational Icon by California State Senate

From Compton to Congress

Kendrick Lamar has always been looked at as a more positive figure in today’s hip-hop world and the sentiment has now extended beyond that, all the way into the California State Senate. Yesterday, the Compton rapper was recognized by the people in government at the state level and was introduced as the 35th Senate District’s Generational Icon. Senator Isadore Hall III presented Kendrick with his award, speaking about his worldwide accomplishments and his ties to the neighborhood.

K Dot then walked up on the podium and gave a short speech of his own, saying he always wanted to give back to the community and now for it to be celebrated on a state level is an honor to him. He accepted the award and thanked everyone there for their generosity.

Watch how it all went down in the clip above.
