Meek Mill “DC4”
Released: October 28th, 2016
Must Listen: Lights Out (feat. Don Q)
If there was an important project in Meek Mill’s career, it was DC4. Many people doubted him after his squabble with Drake, and that kinda blurred some visions. People forgot something though: dude is really good at rapping.
Meek has a lot of things going for him musically. He’s one of the most authentic street rappers out right now, and he’s very motivational. He harps on both of these strengths throughout DC4. At 14 tracks long, he tries to make a statement with each and every song. “Shine” is a hustlers anthem, “Blue Notes” is a somber cut where Meek is able to take the slow beat and turn it into a tale of how good he’s doing.
Where Meek really wins here is his guest spots. One look at the track list and you can see for yourself that DC4 is a star studded affair, and they all deliver. Quavo lends a great verse to “The Difference” both Young Thug and 21 Savage outshine Meek on “Offended,” Tracy T absolutely loses his mind on “Way Up,” and Don Q made a great name for himself on “Lights Out.” This isn’t even mentioning the lost verse from Lil Snupe on the album’s “Outro,” where Meek also delivers one of his strongest performances on the project.
The rollout post DC4 has also been amazing with videos dropping weekly. Right now there are videos for “Shine,” “Blue Notes,” “Way Up,” “On The Regular,” and “The Difference” with one for “Blessed Up” dropping in the next few days. Is that not great promotion? In addition to that, there’s a DC 4.5 coming soon as well. Until then, we’re pretty sure DC4 is going to get us along just fine.
