Lil Durk “They Forgot”
Release Date: November 25th, 2016
Must Listen: Too Late

Lil Durk had something to prove on his latest project They Forgot, for many reasons. The biggest one is his last album Durk2x didn’t do much, and it didn’t help him at all in advancing further in rap. He was coming off 100 Days and 100 Nights, which had been one of his best projects to date. Durk2x wasn’t really Durk at all, but They Forgot is a return to his roots.

The coverart, which is just an abandoned house let’s us know what we’re getting into before we even press play. It’s street music, it’s not fun, it’s not sweet and it’s not nice. The opening track is hard hitting, with Durk spitting. No auto tune, no melodies none of that. He’s rapping about Chicago and the streets and how to maneuver through without being shot down.

There are a few standouts on the tape one being “Too Late” where Durk raps for 3 minutes about wearing more Yeezy’s than Northwest and Kim K, as well as drinking expensive lean. His flow is very precise here, backed by one of the best producers in Chicago, C-Sick. He gets a couple got features from Lil Reese and Meek Mill on They Forgot as well, the latter being produced by London On The Track making it a banger for days. Lil Durk thought we forgot about him, but this mixtape jogged our memories quick. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for 2017.
