For Noisey’s latest edition of their Back & Forth series, they focus on Def Jam Recordings celebrating their 30th anniversary. In part one of the four part segment, the two founders of the legendary record label, Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin discuss the label in its early stages including the difference between hip-hop and rap records, their first ever musical release, the rise of LL Cool J and his dedication to creating music.
Next month on October 16th, the label will be celebrating the three decades of the label with an anniversary bash being held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Those who are set to appear at the concert will be former and presents signees including 2 Chainz, DMX, Foxy Brown, Ja Rule, Method Man, Redman, Fabolous and more.
