Spotify Executive Says Streaming Exclusives Are Bad For the Music Industry

What streaming service you’re subscribed to (if any at all) depends on your specific preference you have. Some have stuck with Spotify after years of being with them. Others jumped ship when Apple Music came to the fold. While the streaming wars continue, one thing is for sure, Spotify still reigns supreme. The platform released new figures for their subscriber base and they’re blowing everyone out of the water.

Spotify global head of creator services, Troy Carter, is talking his stuff in a recent interview with Billboard, saying that exclusives are only ruining the industry and that it promotes pirating. Of course, this comes from a company who hasn’t had many exclusives.

“Exclusives are bad for artists, bad for consumers and bad for the whole industry.”

As far as figures go, Spotify now boasts 39 million paid subscribers, compared to Apple Music’s 15 million.
