SZA Discusses Being Open On New Album “CTRL”

SZA talks new album on OTHERtone

This Sunday, SZA is set to sit down with Pharrell and Scott Vener on OTHERtone on Beats 1. Before the full interview airs, we get a brief nine-minute expert from the in-depth conversation. In it, the Top Dawg artist talks about how she started doing music, going into detail about how she was never really into doing music but a friend of her asked her to sing a hook for one of his songs and later conditioned her to record music for his album.

SZA then opens up about feeling bad that she said her album would release in February, but not delivering. She talked about receiving a call from her mother who told her fans would be upset and thankfully the talented musician was about to set up an interactive website that people can get bits and pieces of the sounds and basically make their own beat with the MPC like feature.

During the discussion about her new album CTRL, SZA said she was a little scared of releasing the project and wanting her music to speak for itself rather than her keep talking about it. Further saying she wants it to be self explanatory and that she had no boundaries in the recording process. Where everything in her mind is put on display throughout the course of the LP.

SZA also spoke on not believing her album is one of the most anticipated projects that is due out this year and much more.

Watch the near ten-minute conversation above and tune into OTHERtone on Beats 1 Sunday, March 5th to hear the entire interview.
