T-Pain has been through a lot in the music business and he’s taken a bulk of the criticism when it comes to Auto-Tune. He popularized and made a career out of the use of it in the 2000’s, though he wasn’t the inventor. And it seems like not everyone was okay with his contributions to music.
In a preview of the Netflix series This Is Pop, Teddy confesses that a conversation with Usher on an airplane sent him into depression.
According to T-Pain, Mr. Raymond woke him up in first class one day on the way to the 2013 BET Awards and blamed him for “fucking up music for real singers.” The comment took T-Pizzle by shock, considering they were friends at the time.
He then explained that he became self-conscious and questioned if the claim was true.
From that moment on, that triggered a depression that lasted four years. In retrospect, he said that was the exact moment it happened and it took a long time for him to realize that.
