Terrace Martin “Influences” (John Coltrane) [Episode #4]

Terrace says we still haven’t caught up to an album that came out in 1957, musically.

Considering Terrace Martin plays the saxophone himself, you knew a classic jazz album had to be thrown in the “Influences” mix as something that shaped him throughout his childhood. In part four of his vlog series paying tribute to some all-time greats, he talks about why John Coltrane’s Blue Train album made a difference in his life.

He still recalls his thoughts when he saw the cover at five years old and can name every person who played an instrument on there. To him, he could hear what they were thinking through the music, and it’s a perfect balance of soulfulness and discipline.

If you’ve never heard the album, DO THAT NOW.
