Weekend At Burnie’s
Producer: Monstabeatz
Released: June 28th, 2011
Essential Listening: “Still” feat. Trademark & Young Roddy

Weekend At Burnies marked Curren$y’s first project as a signee of Warner Bros, and he decided to link with old friends in Monstabeatz to create the backdrop for his raps. The cover features snacks, champagne, weed smoke, and cars, which were all prevalent themes throughout the album.

While this is the only project that’s on the list that actually features more than one producer, the bulk of the production was handled by MonstaBeatz. One would guess that since it was for sale, Warner Bros. probably wanted a little more diversity than what could have been an album entirely produced by Monstabeatz. “#JetsGo” is one of Curren$y’s most successful songs to date, but was produced by Rahki. There were a number of standouts on the album such as “Money Machine” where he’s doing his best to inspire others to grind and get their own money, “She Don’t Wanna Man,” which is about a women cheating on her man while she rolls Curren$y’s weed and picks his homies up. We can’t forget about the beat for “Still” that sounds like it came from out of space or something, Curren$y annihilates the first verse and Trademark and Young Roddy come through with the clean up shortly after.

Monstabeatz doesn’t fail to give Spitta a diverse sound palette and songs like “This Is The Life” are an example with the piano cadence that Curren$y bounces perfectly over. If I had to describe this album with one word it would be “fun,” because that’s what it seems like album is filled with. Fun raps about an assortment of different things that Curren$y likes to get into.
