The journey towards ScHoolboy‘s Q first major label album on Interscope Records has been one of the most anticipated in recent years, especially with fellow TDE affiliate Kendrick Lamar earning critical acclaim with good kid, m.A.A.d city. Q’s previous independent albums Setbacks and Habits & Contradictions both arrived within the past three years, and carried the torch of his crew providing cohesive projects from start to finish.
Oxymoron continues the Los Angeles rapper’s worthy rise to stardom, with the inspiration of the LP based around wanting to do good for his daughter, even if it leads him into negatives areas of life. The project’s theme of gangsta rap and Crip history is driven through personal experiences and growing as a person, with Jay Rock, 2 Chainz, BJ The Chicago Kid, Tyler, The Creator, Kurupt, Raekwon, Suga Free, SZA and A$AP Rocky having verses, and production curated by Nez & Rio, Pharrell, Mike WiLL Made It, Sounwave, Alchemist, Tae Beast, Boi-1da and others.
