Why Darrelle Revis is one of the best out
For those who didn’t watch 60 Minutes on CBS last night, they did a piece on Darrelle Revis to learn why he is one of the most prolific cornerbacks in the NFL. Titled “Revis Island,” Armen Keteyian sat down with the man to talk about his work ethic, how he lives and his journey to becoming one of football’s current greats.
As he puts it, Revis is a humble guy. He lives above a New Jersey restaurant even though he’s getting paid top dollar ($100 million to be exact), he enjoys art in his spare time and plays the drums at New York’s legendary Blue Note Jazz Club.
On the field, it’s a completely different story.
Revis Island is an actual term for when he plays opponents because anything in that vicinity is shut down by Darrelle. The 60 Minutes cameras went inside his offseason workout with Will Sullivan in Arizona and found out how much work he puts in while most players are relaxing, as Revis studies film for players he might face in the year. He also works on his skills, techniques and always wants to improve.
For example, he was taking notes on Odell Beckham Jr., who he won’t even play until Week 13 of the season.
Revis also introduced the cameras to his old stomping grounds of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania where he grew up playing football at “The Pit,” as he explained why his family are his most trusted advisers to his career. They all want what’s best for him.
Now that he’s back in New York with the Jets, his career has come full circle and he’s gotten the champhionship he always craved for (with the New England Patriots), but that doesn’t mean he’s relaxed. Revis Island is still in full effect like it always has.
