Over the last few years, World Wrestling Entertainment’s stock has been plummeting, including pay-per-views down and tv ratings. However, the company’s official streaming network service, has been the only highlight of their company, as fans have made the switch to their monthly $9.99 subscription.
This week, reports surfaced that Amazon Inc. is planning to purchase streaming rights to WWE content (pay-per-views) and the WWE Network.
With Vince McMahon putting a large focus on his XFL company to get him out of the red, financially, many believe Amazon’s initial licensing streaming deal will enable them to purchase the company. Considering the company’s stock fell more than 30% in 2019, those numbers don’t look to be improving.
Instead of creating new stars and giving performers freedom, the McMahons are bringing in older talent such as Goldberg, Sting and The Undertaker for WrestleMania in a few weeks. This is short-term fix, but it’s not guaranteed that fans will stay pat April 6th.
