Good Pitching > Good Hitting…Tigers Get Shut Out For The Third Time All Year.
You’re Fucking Out! Just 4 days ago before this series started, nobody in the baseball world expected the Giants to be up 2-0 heading back to Detroit, let alone giving the Tigers a shutout (lowest in the majors with only three all year) but the boys from Frisco have shocked the world thus far. Tonight’s pitching duel featured Doug Fister and Madison Bumgarner in a must-win game for both teams.
Delmon Young would double to left in the 2nd with Omar Infante following with an infield single to short in the 4th but those two at bats would be the only hits of the game for the Tigers as they were completely dominated by Madison Bumgarner the entire game. Bumgarner would finish off striking out 8 total batters with a pitch count of 54 strikes on only 86 pitches.
In the bottom of the 7th after another 1-2-3 inning from Bumgarner and his last, the Giants bats would finally see the light of day as Hunter Pence starting things off with a single to left. Brandon Belt was then walked with Gregor Blanco reaching on an infield bunt single down the left line. With the bases loaded, Brandon Crawford would sac-hit into a double which allowed Pence to score from third giving San Francisco the first score of the game at 1-0.
Jumping to the bottom of the 8th, the Giants would look for cushion for their lead before the closeout in 9th as Angel Pagan, Pablo Sandoval (intentionally) and Buster Posey were all walked to load the bases. Hunter Pence would hit a sac-fly to right as Pagan scored to make the score 2-0. In the 9th inning Sergio Romo would finish things off with a fly out from Quintin Berry, striking out Austin Jackson and a foul out to first to end the game from Omar Infante.
With the series heading back to Detroit now, the Tigers are in a big 0-2 hole already throwing their ace Justin Verlander to the mound in game 1 as he’s already lost and isn’t scheduled to pitch again until next Monday for game 6 if necessary. What’s even more scarier for Detroit is that neither Giants ace Matt Cain or Ryan Vogelsong have thrown a single pitch in the World Series yet and with and with former Cy Young winner, Tim Lincecum pitching lights out from the bullpen.
For game 3, we’ll see Ryan Vogelsong called upon from Frisco to face Anibal Sanchez who’s facing pressure in a must win situation for Detroit. Tune in this Saturday at 8pm ET on Fox.
