Anaheim Stays Alive In The Playoff Race With Sweep Over Chicago.
Sunday for the rubber game match-up at the Angel Stadium of Anaheim, the White Sox were back once again for hopes of winning one game out of this crucial 3 game series the playoffs approaching. Angels, Ace Jered Weaver (18-4) faced Gavin Floyd (10-10) as both pitchers were hoping to lead their teams to victory for imminent playoff berths. Taking things to the 6th inning, with Mike Trout being walked and Torii Hunter singling to right, Albert Pujols would double deep to left bringing in both runners to make the score 2-0.
Immediately preceding this with Pujols on 2nd; Kendrys Morales hit a 2 run homer to make the game 4-0 before the 7th. Jered Weaver who pitched 6 solid innings giving up one run in the 7th from a sac fly hit by Dayan Viciedo to bring in A.J. Pierzynski. Weaver was taken out as he finished off the game with a 2.74 ERA for the game. Los Angeles would use three pitchers to close out the game and series in a 3-0 sweep over the Chicago.
Anaheim, who lost their previous series against the Rangers 2-1, will have to rely on the Oakland Athletics losing games since they can’t control their own fate if they want to reach October. They start a favorable 3-game series against the Seattle Mariners before they end the season next weekend against the Texas Rangers in possibly the biggest series of next weekend. Things get smoother for the White Sox as they finish both of their final regular season series at home against Cleveland and Tampa. With Detroit closing in on their rear view mirror, Chicago should play every game like it’s their last from here on out.
