Almost Perfect, Angels Ace Tosses No Hitter Against The Twins
On Wednesday night, Jered Weaver became the 10th player in Angels history to throw a no hitter and captured the 2nd no hitter of the season. Weaver had a perfect game heading into he top of the 7th before he walked Twins left-fielder, Josh Willingham. Not to be discouraged by blowing his perfect game, he still wanted to accomplish what few have done and that was achieve a no-hitter in the majors. Weaver finished with 9 strikeouts and 121 pitches, 77 of which were strikes.
Weaver’s no-hitter has been the only good news for the Angels this season as newly acquired first-baseman Albert Pujols has been struggling. Pujols is currently hitting .217 with no home-runs and possibly his worst month of his career. The Angels are currently last in the American League west behind the Rangers 7 games and 6 games outside of the Wildcard. Weaver along with veteran LaTroy Hawkins and newly acquired starter C.J. Wilson have been the standouts this season as their offense has been struggling. Angels have one of the stronger offenses in all of baseball on paper but that hasn’t transcended into actual play. Luckily for the Angels, the season is only 4 weeks in as they will look to build momentum from this win to jump-start their season in hopes for a postseason bid.
