Johan Santana gives Mets fans their first taste of seeing a no-hitter after over 50+ Years of waiting.
On Friday night at Queens’ Citi Field, Johan Santana pitched the first no-hitter in New York Mets’ history. Over a half century and 8,020 Mets baseball games later, the crowd of almost 28,000 were treated to the third no-hitter of the season as Johan Santana joined Jered Weaver and Philip Humber with this historic pitching performance. The 33 year old left hander had been dealing with a number of injuries the past 3 seasons as he missed the entire season last year due to having rotator cuff surgery. Santana has a career ERA of 3.10 striking out 1,937 and a record of 136-71 during his 12 years of play. Currently the Mets are having a better season their crosstown rival, Yankees and are 1 game behind the Washington Nationals for the top seed in the AL East. With Johan’s historic outing, the San Diego Padres are now the only team in the majors without a no-hitter.
