MVPablo Sandoval Leads Giants To 2nd World Series In 3 Years.
After completing two back to back shut out games against the Detroit Tigers, the Giants of Frisco were back again for game 4 of the series with hopes winning their 7th game in a row this postseason. The pitching matchup on hand featured Matt Cain (who hadn’t thrown a single pitch before game 4) and Max Scherzer.
Jumping to the top of the 2nd inning, Hunter Pence would set things up hitting a ground rule double to left field with one out on deck with Buster Posey striking out previously. Brandon Belt would then triple to deep right bringing in Pence to give the Giants the first score of the game.
In the Bottom of the third, the 2012 Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera who had virtually became an afterthought in this World Series along with the rest of Tigers lineup as he would homer to deep right bringing in Austin Jackson who was walked to give Detroit their first lead of the series.
Jumping to the 6th inning Marco Scutaro would reach first on an infield single to third with Buster Posey following up two batters later with a homer left to give SF the lead a 3-2. In the bottom half, Delmon Young would homer to right to tie the game at 3 all.
Matt Cain would finish his pitching night with one more 1-2-3 inning to finish off with a 3.86 ERA. With Jeremy Affeldt coming in for relief duties as he stuck out Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder and Delmon Young all back-to-back to finish out the bottom of the 8th. In the next inning, Phil Coke would counter with a 1-2-3 of his own striking out Hunter Pence, Brandon Belt and Gregor Blanco.
In the bottom of the 9th, Jhonny Peralta would hit one to deep center as the wind was really starting gush but it wouldn’t be enough that at bat as he it was caught by Buster Posey to save Jeremy Affeldt from giving up the potential walk off.
With the top of 10th in motion, Ryan Theriot would single to right center on Phil Coke starting things off in the inning. Brandon Crawford would sac-bunt as Theriot would advance to 2nd. After a quick strike out from Pagan, Marco Scutaro would single to center as Theriot would score to make it a 4-3.
Heading to the bottom and last inning of the year, the closer Sergio Romo would come in to hopefully end the series for his team. Romo would go onto to do that by striking out all three batters in Austin Jackson, Don Kelly and Miguel Cabrera to win the series for his team.
The Giants now win their 2nd world series in 3 years and even did so without their best player Melky Cabrera who was suspended for PE’s in August. The Giants kept their composure during the worst times of the season and managed to be clutch when the time was needed. This was one of the more impressive outings and World Series wins from the Giants over the biggest power line-up in all of baseball holding them to an average of 5 hits or less per game.
