With much expected from Brazil in the opening game of the World Cup, the home country stormed ahead in a 3-1 victory over Croatia. The first goal of competition turned out to be an own goal from Marcelo, who turned a shot from Jelavic into his own net. Despite constant pressure from Croatia, Neymar managed to equal the scoring at 1-1 after slotting the ball past the keeper from just outside the area.
While the two sides went into half-time on equal terms, it took until the 70th minute mark for Brazil to make it 2-1, when a controversial decision was made after Lovren brought down Fred, and Neymar was there to convert from the penalty spot.
It was like if the refs were wearing Brazilian jerseys.

At the end of the day, Brazil outmatched Crotatia, dominating in shots on goal, time of possession and corner kicks. Croatia had a few opportunities to retain the lead but committed 21 fouls to Brazil’s 5 and offensively, they only took 10 shots. We wouldn’t be surprised to see these two slug it out of the group.
