Costa Rica Shock Uruguay in 3-1 Win

Luis Suarez sat on the bench SICK at the outcome.

Uruguay had all but the sure-shot win to start the game, because nobody saw Costa Rica come out and attack like this. Much less win in such dominating fashion.

Although Luiz Suarez sat this matchup out thanks to knee surgery three weeks ago, Uruguay thought they were safe. They started the game with a 1-0 lead throughout the first half after a Edinson Cavani penalty score in the 24th minute.

Then the teams came out in the second half and it was a different game.

We’re puzzled at his celebration, though.

In the 54th minute, young Joel Campbell showed why he’s one to check for in this year’s World Cup, by scoring the left footed shot for the equalizer. And that’s when the tide turned and momentum picked up for Costa Rica.

Only three minutes later, Oscar Duarte gave Costa Rica the lead with an amazing header that left Uruguay goalie Fernando Muslera stunned. After battling back and forth for the rest of the game, the Uruguayan national team didn’t have enough to tie it up, in part by the fact that Costa Rica kept attacking. Celso Borges almost had a score from deep, while Bryan Ruiz missed a header of his own.

As soon as Marcos Ureña, Costa Rica sealed the deal with a score on his first touch of the game thanks to a finesse pass from Joel Campbell (this made him one of three players in the 2014 World Cup to score a goal and dish out an assist thus far).

What’s next for both teams? Uruguay takes on England on Thursday, while Costa Rica will face Italy on Friday in Group D matches.
